Day 12: Aligning Your Desires with God's Purposes

Verse of the Day: "Delight yourself in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart." - Psalm 37:4
 
Everyday we are constantly bombarded with messages about fulfilling our own desires, it can be challenging to align our aspirations with God's purposes. However, as believers, we are called to seek God's will and place His desires above our own. Today, let us explore how we can align our desires with God's purposes and experience the abundant life He has planned for us.
 
Seek God's Kingdom First:
Jesus reminds us in Matthew 6:33 to "seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you." When we prioritize God's kingdom and His righteousness above everything else, we position ourselves to align our desires with His purposes. Our hearts become attuned to what truly matters to God, and our desires begin to reflect His will.
 
Cultivate an Authentic Relationship with God:
To align our desires with God's purposes, we need to intimately know Him. Spend time in prayer, reading His Word, and seeking His presence. As we draw closer to God, our desires will naturally begin to align with His because we understand His character, His ways, and His heart for humanity. Let the Holy Spirit guide your thoughts and shape your desires in accordance with God's will.
 
Surrender Your Will:
Aligning our desires with God's purposes requires surrendering our own will to His. We must let go of our selfish ambitions and submit to His plans. Trust that God knows what is best for us, even when it may not align with our immediate desires. Surrendering to God's will allows Him to work in and through us, bringing about blessings and fulfilling His purposes in our lives.
 
Develop a Servant's Heart:
Jesus modeled a servant's heart throughout His earthly ministry. As we align our desires with God's purposes, we should also develop a heart of service towards others. When our desires are focused on loving and serving others, we mirror Christ's example and participate in God's redemptive work. Ask God to shape your desires to be in line with His mission to spread His love and truth to those around you.
 
Always Trust in God's Timing:
Lastly, aligning our desires with God's purposes requires patience and trust in His timing. Sometimes, our desires may not be fulfilled immediately or in the way we expect. However, we can rest assured that God's plans are perfect and His timing is impeccable. Trust that He is working all things together for your good and aligning your desires with His perfect will.

Dear Lord, help me align my desires with Your purposes. I surrender my will to Yours and ask for a heart that seeks Your kingdom above all else. Open my eyes to understand Your ways and grant me the strength to serve others selflessly. Teach me patience and trust in Your perfect timing. In Jesus' name, amen.
