21 Days of Fasting - 2025 - Day 7
Daily Devotional: The Foundation of Hearing God
Scripture: “My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.” (John 10:27)
Hearing God is not a mysterious or unattainable privilege reserved for a select few. It is the birthright of every believer who is part of God’s flock. In John 10:27, Jesus’ words assure us of two profound truths: first, that He speaks to His sheep, and second, that His sheep are capable of recognizing and following His voice. These truths form the foundation of our relationship with Him.
To hear God’s voice, we must first understand the nature of our relationship with Him. Jesus describes Himself as the Good Shepherd who intimately knows His sheep. This means that communication with God flows out of a relationship of love, trust, and intimacy. It’s not just about hearing commands or guidance; it’s about knowing the heart of the One who speaks.
How do we recognize His voice? Just as sheep learn to distinguish their shepherd’s voice through constant exposure, we become familiar with God’s voice by spending time in His Word, worship, and prayer. The Bible is God’s primary way of speaking to us, providing clarity and confirmation of His character and will. When we read Scripture, we tune our hearts to the frequency of His voice, learning to discern between His truth and other competing voices in our lives.
Furthermore, hearing God requires a posture of humility and a willingness to follow wherever He leads. When we acknowledge that He knows us better than we know ourselves, we can trust Him to guide us in paths of righteousness. As we step out in obedience, our ability to hear and respond to His voice becomes sharper and more confident.
Today, reflect on the relationship you have with your Good Shepherd. Are you spending time in His presence, listening for His voice? Are you positioning your heart to receive His guidance and acting in faith on what He reveals? Remember, He longs to lead you beside still waters and restore your soul. Trust in His voice, and you will find clarity, peace, and purpose.
Prayer Focus:
Heavenly Father, thank You for being my Good Shepherd who knows me and calls me by name. Help me to build a deeper relationship with You and to recognize Your voice in the midst of life’s noise. Teach me to trust and follow You, knowing that You always lead me in love and truth. Tune my heart to hear You more clearly and to respond with faith and obedience. In Jesus’ name, Amen
